Only recently in the line dance community has the name Christopher Petre become widely recognized. A recipient of the Dancer’s Choice Horizon Award 2007 and the choreographer of BUTTER BEANS, the name is certainly out there. But who is he? Who is this pirate? Chances are that if you have gone to a dance weekend along the Eastern seaboard or a workshop in the Northeast, no matter whether you’re beginner or advanced, Country or Hip-Hop, you probably have danced right by him.
The fact is Christopher has been around for a while. He’s been dancing since 1999. He started winning choreography competitions in 2003. Most importantly, has taught many dancers along the way how the steps and movement don’t have to be that hard and that it’s easy to enjoy yourself dancing.
Not only is he an excellent teacher, he makes classes enjoyable as well. An avid dancer, you will find him taking lessons from others instructors and at evening dancing you will always find him out on the dance floor.
So don’t be put off by the handlebar mustache, ‘old school’ jeans and all the skulls and crossbones. Just because Christopher’s always wearing a bandanna tied on his head it’s natural that people who didn’t know his name called him “The Pirate” (although he does prefer being called Christopher.)
Christopher currently has beginner classes in Yorktown Heights, New York and he can often be seen at workshops from New Jersey to New Hampshire and at many points in between. Not to mention his repeated engagements in at JG2’s Marathon, Windy City, Mishnock and Friends Hudson Valley Weekends and Alan Kohn’s All American Dance weekends.
